Prevention-focused mental health education, awareness, research, and inclusive programming — for and with young people.
Vital Minds Initiative Uganda (VMI) is a youth-led Community Based Organization rooted in Uganda and driven by a simple but urgent belief — that Young people deserve mental health support before the breaking point, before a crisis. Not after.
We work at the intersection of mental health, education, and youth empowerment. From classrooms to campuses, workplaces to grassroots communities, and digital spaces that reach far beyond our borders — we show up where young people are, and we build spaces where they feel safe enough to grow, heal, and lead.
Our work touches children, adolescents, and young people between the ages of 12 and 35 through real, hands-on interventions — school and university programs, workplace and organizational sessions, and livelihood initiatives at the community level. We don’t just raise awareness. We walk with people.
At VMI, we believe prevention is the most powerful investment any society can make in its youth. So we act early, we act intentionally, and we act together — because the mental health of Uganda’s young people is not just a local concern. It is a human one.
Delivering evidence-based mental health literacy in schools, communities, and digital spaces.
Community-driven research and culturally appropriate, youth-centered interventions.
Advocating for inclusive environments that support children with diverse learning, developmental, and mental health needs.
Building resilient communities through peer support networks, training, and community-led initiatives.
